Buying Furniture

The Melton and District Furniture Project was set up to ensure that anyone in receipt of a state
benefit could access inexpensive household furniture and accessories.

This remains its main criteria for customer usage. However it has widened its remit to include people within
the Melton Borough and Rutland County Council areas who can show that they are in receipt
of a low income, e.g. tax credits, etc.

The Project doesn't discourage others from using its services but neither does it encourage a wider usage.

Anyone having 'emergency needs' such as allocation of housing by the local authorities without having
furniture, can be helped via the Project's Referral System.

A variety of agencies are recognised as referral bodies through whom a full house, or flat, of furniture
can be agreed for a total cost of £100.00.

This covers homelessness, fire, flood, or similar emergency circumstances.

If you feel that you would qualify for this part of the Project's service, then please speak to the
agency dealing with your situation; or, get in touch with the Project and detail your particular
needs and circumstances.

If the total of your purchases is £18.00 or more, it will qualify for free delivery. If your purchase does not
total £18.00 you are responsible for making your own collection arrangements.

If you live outside the main areas of benefit, namely Melton Borough Council and Rutland County Council
areas, you can still purchase items from the Project but you will be expected to make your own
collection arrangements.

The Project WILL NOT deliver outside of its main areas of benefit as shown above.

Items being purchased must be paid for in cash at the time of selection.

Deposits CANNOT be accepted. Items purchased must be cleared from the Project as soon as possible
after payment.

Credit/Debit cards & Cheques are NOT accepted by the project as a form of payment.

The Project aims to make its services as easy as possible for everyone, if you have a particular concern,
then speak with one of the volunteers or staff at the Project, an answer will be forthcoming
which will assist you.

Stock changes daily and items cannot be reserved, there is a heavy demand and if you are looking for a particular
furniture item, you are advised to visit the Project regularly. Collections are carried out Monday through Friday
and no one knows until the items are brought to the Project what the quality or style might be.
